Pittsburgh Art Museums
Contemporary art fans will delight at the Carnegie Museum of Art, arguably the first museum of modern art in the United States. Collections of note include works of American art, French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings, and European and American decorative arts from the late seventeenth century to the present. The Hall of Architecture contains the largest collection of plaster casts of architectural masterpieces in America and one of the three largest in the world. The marble Hall of Sculpture replicates the interior of the Parthenon.
Inside the same complex, the Carnegie Museum of Natural History is ranked among the top five natural history museums in the country and features 20 exhibition halls including the blockbuster Dinosaurs in Their Time - featuring the world's third-largest collection of real dinosaur bones.
With over 12,000 works of art, the Andy Warhol Museum is the largest single-artist museum in the United States. Connected to downtown Pittsburgh via the Andy Warhol Bridge, the museum is recognized as the definitive source for all-things Warhol, and its wildly popular traveling exhibitions have been viewed by more than 6 million people throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia.
Collections at the Frick Art + Historical Center are the legacy of Helen Clay Frick, daughter of Henry Clay Frick, one of America's greatest industrialists and art collectors. Here, one can view fine and decorative arts and artifacts, magnificent exhibitions and vintage cars and carriages.
But that's not all! Pittsburgh is also home to the Wood Street Galleries, world-renowned Mattress Factory and more. These museums feature the works of incredible artists - from photography to sound and light installations.
With so many amazing museums to visit, art lovers will feel right at home in Pittsburgh!
