Pittsburgh Technology Council Members Power the Entire Region's Economic Renaissance
Technology companies and advanced manufacturers are in the driver's seat of the Pittsburgh region's economic renaissance. And for more than 25 years, the Pittsburgh Technology Council has served as a primary resource to help these companies succeed. The Council's nearly 1,400 member companies represent transformative technology clusters ranging from renewable energy and nanotechnology to the life sciences and advanced materials. The membership of the Council truly represents the region's economic revival. Pittsburgh and the surrounding region are home to more than 7,200 technology companies employing some 207,000 people. That's 17.5 percent of the workforce accounting for approximately $10.8 billion in payroll.
As the steel industry in the Pittsburgh region bottomed out more than a quarter century ago, a group of forward-thinking business people knew the city's future would be built on technology companies and advanced manufacturing. In 1983, the Pittsburgh Technology Council was formed to give isolated technology companies a unified voice and support structure to ensure future vitality.
The Council's nearly 1,400 member companies access four key service platforms that enable growth and success, including Business Development, Workforce Development, Government Relations and Visibility Opportunities. Through these platforms, the Council helps its members to make money, raise money and save money.
Our member companies represent the diversity of the regional industry with businesses at the intersections of energy and nanotechnology, healthcare and information technology and green building and advanced materials to name a few.
By developing pervasive technologies and delivering them to market day in and day out, Pittsburgh-area technology companies stoke the region's economic fire. Today, Pittsburgh and the surrounding region are home to more than 7,200 technology companies employing some 207,000 people. That's 17.5 percent of the workforce accounting for approximately $10.8 billion in payroll.
