Pittsburgh Bloggers - Write here in Pittsburgh

Contact: Cynthia Closkey, ccloskey@bigbigdesign.com

Pittsburgh Bloggers is a volunteer-run organization dedicated to supporting blogging and social media in the Pittsburgh region and throughout southwestern Pennsylvania.

The organization was founded in October 2004. Local bloggers who had been reading each others' posts online wanted both to get to know each other "in real life" and to make it easier to find blogs that were written in and about Pittsburgh.

Mike Woycheck, Anne Brannen, Cynthia Closkey, Vanessa Kristoff Fine and Christina Schulman worked together to compile lists of local blogs. Woycheck created an online directory, www.pghbloggers.org, that not only served to highlight local blogs but also syndicated and aggregated their content, making it easier to discover what Pittsburgh is blogging about at any moment.

In three days, the directory went from listing 60 to 130 blogs. Today, the directory has grown to include over 900 websites. Pittsburgh was highlighted as the third "bloggiest" city in the U.S. in 2007.

The Pittsburgh Bloggers organization continues to support the efforts of local bloggers, podcasters, vloggers, and other social media creators through quarterly get-togethers, announcements about blogging opportunities, and informational and educational events.
