The YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh has a Lasting Commitment to Build Strong Children, Strong Families and Strong Pittsburgh Communities

For more than 150 years, the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh has developed a deeply rooted connection to the Pittsburgh area and its people. Whether it's providing safe places for kids to play after school, fitness facilities for people to lose weight and get healthy or employment services for people strapped by the economic downturn, the YMCA provides steadfast support to communities throughout the area. With a wide range of programs, social services, development projects and international initiatives, the organization strives to make a difference in local lives by building strong children, strong families and strong communities.

For more than 150 years, the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh has developed a deeply rooted connection to the Pittsburgh area and its people.

  • Programs that make a difference. With a commitment to build strong children, strong families and strong communities, the YMCA serves more than 80,000 people each year in the Pittsburgh area with a wide range of programs and social services, including health and wellness programs, childcare, recreational facilities, food pantries, computer training, drug and alcohol counseling, senior services and children's summer camps.
  • Community Investments. More than $16.5 million in investments to improve and expand YMCA facilities have bolstered the development of our communities. Recent renovation and construction in Homewood-Brushton and the Hill District brought state-of-the-art facilities and improved services to two drastically under-served local neighborhoods. Two new buildings in the downtown area are an integral part of the city's plans to revitalize the central business district.
  • Healthy Communities. The YMCA works with local businesses to encourage healthier lifestyles of Pittsburgh employees. Partnerships with several companies provide employees and community residents with convenient on-site fitness facilities, wellness programs, health assessments and personalized fitness planning.
  • International Outreach. Like all of Pittsburgh, the YMCA has a global outlook. Through international partnerships, Pittsburgh volunteers have worked with groups of Muslims, Jews and Christians to bridge cultural divides and traveled to South Africa to develop a day camp for orphaned children.
