PNC Grow Up Great Collaborates with 14 Science Centers to Boost Skills of Pre-schoolers to Help Prepare Them for School and Life

Preschool children from seven states and the District of Columbia will have more opportunities to learn science basics and experience related activities that are educational and fun through grants funded by the PNC Foundation to 14 regional science centers and non-profit organizations. Grow Up Great with Science, PNC's new initiative, comes at a time when many educators have sought increased emphasis in science education. The new investments in school readiness by the PNC Foundation are part of PNC Grow Up Great, the 10-year, $100 million investment in early childhood education, which celebrated its fifth anniversary in April this year.

The new investments in school readiness by the PNC Foundation, which receives its principal funding from The PNC Financial Services Group (NYSE: PNC), were announced in April as PNC Grow Up Great, the 10-year, $100 million investment in early childhood education, celebrated its fifth anniversary.

Launched in 2004, PNC Grow Up Great and PNC Crezca con Éxito form a comprehensive bilingual, corporate-based school readiness initiative which offers grants and promotes volunteer opportunities, advocacy and awareness. Focused primarily on underserved children from birth to age 5, the initiative has partnered with some of the nation's most highly-respected early childhood experts and nonprofit organizations to help produce stronger, smarter and healthier children, families and communities.  Partners include Sesame Workshop, Family Communications, Inc. and Head Start.

As one of the nation's leading diversified financial services organizations, PNC understands that investing in children is an investment in the nation's future. Research shows that children who participate in high-quality preschool programs are likely to experience greater educational achievements, strive toward higher vocational aspirations and contribute to society later in life.
