Overview
For forty years Christian Associates of Southwest Pennsylvania has gathered bishops and regional church leaders together in the quest for unity within the Church. The organization includes 26 church bodies (Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant) representing 16 distinct Communions/Confessional Traditions with 2,000 congregations and 1,000,000 Christians in the 10 county region of southwestern Pennsylvania. The association seeks to be "a unifying voice in the name of Jesus Christ for the mission of the Gospel and the wholeness of communities." Programs include a cable television ministry, a jail chaplaincy and HOPE pre-release program for male and female offenders, environmental conservation, disaster preparedness and response, theological dialogue and interfaith engagement.

Governed by the Council of Bishops and Judicatory Executives these Christian leaders from very diverse expressions of Christianity have developed trust and genuine affection among their fellowship. United by a simple confession, "Jesus Christ is Divine Savior and Lord," and working under a consensus model of decision making have sustained a television production studio and cable casting operation bringing locally produced denominational programs to the city of Pittsburgh and the tri-state region; administer an ecumenical and interfaith chaplaincy at the Allegheny County Jail for 2,600 inmates; developed a pre-release program for offenders which has reduced recidivism from 66% to 12.5%; spoken about "Creation & the Environment" and is planning an energy conservation seminar; took the lead in preparing judicatories for an influenza pandemic; administers for the regional VOAD (Volunteers Organizations Active in Disasters). Theological dialogue is fostered among the various Christian denominational members. Interfaith dialogue among the Abrahamic traditions is facilitated as the Religious Leadership Forum of Southwest Pennsylvania.
