The Mattress Factory Museum Becomes First Museum in the U.S. to Offer a 100% Paperless Green Membership

Synopsis
Less paper, more art! The Mattress Factory, a museum of contemporary installation art on Pittsburgh's North Side, joined the worldwide endeavor of "going green" with the country's first paperless Green Membership Program. The program reduces the museum's global footprint and minimizes its impact on the environment by corresponding with members completely electronically. Reducing paper and postage costs, the Green Membership allows an increased percentage of membership money to directly support the art.

Overview
Less paper, more art! The Mattress Factory, a museum of contemporary installation art on Pittsburgh's North Side, has joined the worldwide endeavor to "go green" with a paperless Green Membership Program.

The Mattress Factory's Green Membership reduces the museum's global footprint on the environment. Green Members receive all museum-related correspondence electronically, which reduces paper and postage costs, allowing an increased percentage of membership money to directly support the art.

"We are very excited about the Green Membership," says Lindsay O'Leary, Membership Coordinator for the museum, who has a degree in Environmental Planning and Design. "For thirty years, the Mattress Factory has pushed boundaries in the contemporary art world, and we're extremely proud to extend that drive and ingenuity to the worthy cause of environmentalism."

The Green Membership program was officially launched on April 19th, 2008, at Ecolution, Pittsburgh's first Earth Day Celebration, which was held at the Mattress Factory. Since the launch last spring, 30% of the Mattress Factory's total membership has "gone green" to support the endeavor for a cleaner world.

More information about the event and membership can be found at www.mattress.org/green.
