Overview
For more than 60 years, Pittsburgh CLO has been a part of the cultural fabric of Pittsburgh. By staging exquisite productions of musical theater classics each summer and year-round CLO Cabaret performances, Pittsburgh CLO welcomes 200,000 patrons annually and helps to define Pittsburgh as a tourist destination. Pittsburgh CLO's history, evolution and success mirror the inspirational story of its home city. More than a successful local theater, CLO has earned a reputation as a leader in the industry. It counts among its alumni Broadway's Sutton Foster, "Chicago" director Rob Marshall, Carol Burnett and Jeff Goldblum. In addition, the organization presents the prestigious Richard Rodgers Award honoring such talents as Julie Andrews and Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber. Pittsburgh CLO's efforts are helping to ensure a successful future for the American musical. Just this year, Pittsburgh CLO co-produced the first-ever National High School Musical Theater Awards in New York City. In addition, its Broadway investments include Legally Blonde The Musical, Spamalot, The Color Purple and 9 to 5. During the 2010 season Pittsburgh CLO's name will appear above the title in a Broadway Playbill for the first time when The Addams Family makes its premiere. Despite its ever-increasing national role, Pittsburgh CLO is at its heart a community organization, employing local actors and 400 full and part-time professionals. In addition, its education /outreach programs are unparalleled.
