Showcasing the best national and international contemporary craft through high‐quality exhibition, education and outreach programming

Synopsis
The Society for Contemporary Craft (SCC) is one of the few non‐profit visual arts organizations in the United States dedicated to engaging the public in the creative experience through contemporary craft. Showcasing the best artists working in all craft media - clay, glass, wood, fiber and found objects - SCC routinely curates internationally renowned exhibitions, houses a retail Store, offers classes in its state-of‐the‐art education Studio, and runs outreach programming for at‐risk populations. As a well‐known cultural tourism destination for craft collectors, SCC regularly receives visitors from New York, Los Angeles, and as far away as Hong Kong.

Overview
Since 1971, the Society for Contemporary Craft (SCC) has transformed into a major force in the field of contemporary craft. One of the few organizations dedicated exclusively to contemporary craft, SCC has established the biennial Elizabeth R. Raphael Founder's Prize, created the Lydon Emerging Artist Program, and curated countless cutting‐edge exhibitions. In very few other cities across the country can visitors interact with this caliber of contemporary craft from national and international artists, both emerging and established.

SCC's free admission and Strip District location make it accessible to a diverse audience. Since 1986, SCC has organized nearly 200 exhibitions featuring work by over 1,500 artists; offered hundreds of public education programs; established a satellite gallery at One Mellon Center; and developed an innovative slate of community outreach programs for at‐risk populations. Arts education is fully integrated into every exhibition and is crucial to SCC's ability to successfully carry out its mission and to build future audiences. SCC's state‐of‐the‐art education Studio and national teaching artists attract students from across the country and as far away as Hong Kong.

SCC not only presents the best of national and international contemporary craft locally, it also curates and travels museum quality exhibitions, such as COLOR: Ten African American Artists and Beyond Shared Language: Contemporary Art and the Latin American Experience, to other museums including the Smithsonian's Renwick Gallery in Washington, DC and the Museum of Arts & Design in New York City.
