Glass Gallery Continues Pittsburgh’s History with Glass

Pittsburgh is known for its vibrant arts community and is home to cultural institutions such as the Andy Warhol Museum, the Mattress Factory, the Carnegie Museums and Libraries, the Frick Historical Center, as well as the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts and the Pittsburgh Glass Center. The city has a long history of glass as it has been a major glass producer and is emerging as a studio glass center. However, the city lacked a glass gallery until January 1997. Morgan Contemporary Glass Gallery exhibits glass sculpture and jewelry from the finest emerging and established artists working in glass today.

In 1997, Morgan Contemporary Glass Gallery opened as Pittsburgh’s only contemporary studio glass gallery exhibiting sculpture and jewelry by established and emerging artists from around the world. Art critic Kurt Shaw of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review recently noted, "[The gallery] can be counted on for consistently presenting what is current and cutting edge in the glass world." Morgan Contemporary Glass Gallery is located in Pittsburgh's East End neighborhood of Shadyside, which is home to many galleries, antique stores, specialty shops, coffee houses, and trendy restaurants.
